Joanna On my first diet I had a drink every now and then when I got together with friends. Vodka with Shasta diet soda was great. While serving in the Military we where told to stay away from Supplements, like Vitamins, Thyroid boosters and Minerals. Because if any Soldier is deficient then they noticed it on our regular blood work and most of us never had to take supplements. Was also told that most will be flushed down the drain. 😉
So I do not take any supplements unless I get deficiencies. I only ever was told to take Calcium with D vitamin. All other micro nutrients are fine. For example, all the B vitamins are great, because of Meats, like eating Beef, Chicken and Fish. My salads and veggies come with all other vitamins and minerals. So if you don't eat the same thing every day... you don't have to waste your money. Thyroid boaters can be dangerous, I wouldn't take them. Too many T4 or T3's can make your heart race and your joints will start to hurt. So only take that if the Doc says you're low.
30 lbs! You should be proud of that! Ceep it up, lady and remember your scale and your Doc's can differ. Don't be hard on yourself if you have some weeks where you don't loose.... I measured myself and wrote it on a piece of paper that I sealed and clipped it on the refrigerator. When I stop dropping pounds, I look back on my envelope with my measurements. It will show me that I still loose and I keep going.
A superpower is sticking to your goals.

yatesa12 I never had the weakness. I also don't eat the same over and over, a friend she used to repeat her food for weeks and had that drained feeling. I asked her to have her Doc check blood. But she started to eat more veggies, then salads with her Meats and Fat. That solves it. So there may be some that see they loose and keep eating only the same, that could be a cause?

wamdesigns wow this is so kind of you, investing your time and you make powerful & relevant points right through. Currently I can leave having alcohol so will continue as a taste will have me finishing the bottle! (of wine) Re thyroid I am low but not medication low ~ and I have ordered but not yet started logals Iodine solution, intending to have one drop a day, 5 days a week (obviously taking organic selenium later in the day). I also have to have B12 injections 3 monthly as I don't store Iron well I take Iron too. I am eating a salad everyday but I guess diet is reasonably similar on a weekly basis but feels varied meal by meal. I know I flush excess vitamins but living in the UK getting your bloods done more than annually would only happen if you present with problems requiring investigation. Bit of a catch 22 wait until you show symptoms (some rarely show any) ~ spend some hard earned cash on supplements.... I erred on prevention & spending as I do want to be well. I am listening to you however, thank you & if weakness continues I will just have to face the consequences with my GP! Bless you saying I should be proud about 30lbs I am mortified I have been told I must keep within my ideal weight range for 5' 10"! ~ why? HRT patches. At 56 I am probably the oldest on here, but I suffered bad hot flushes for 10 yrs before my GP said time for HRT - which I am so glad for I daren't go back overweight as I might be taken off it. Sounds pathetic but the 'power surges' as I called them, along with total loss of confidence is a very painful memory.
complex aren't I. Older women! Are my plans for Iodine conservative enough not to concern you so much?
thank you for listening, I think putting it down in writing makes me realise I need to get a grip & face my GP. 🌷

wamdesigns Super great idea on the measuring yourself I havn;t done that yet!! Clothes starting to change 7.5 down just finished 5th week. Not sure that is good or bad as I know we are all different! yatesa12 somehow I missed your 2 posts sorry, I wasn't being intentionally ignorant. Very valid points, I have being adding plenty of pink Himalayan rock salt (to the point of feeling guilty) but that aside, I realise I must get checked out by my GP. It's ridiculous to try to take care of myself on one hand whilst potentially missing something else going on the other. Mon-Fri I have felt much better but not my usual multi tasking, self motivated & highly organised self happy to work in 5th gear ~ not been out of 3rd if that makes sense (those who drive automatics sorry). Thank you for your time.

soniakircher00 I really don't keep track of them to be honest. Just go as long as I can until I feel the hunger pangs. The reason why I was heavy before was because I ate when I wasn't hungry. I know one day I ate tuna and egg spread about 3 pm and didn't have any other food till next day roughly later morning. I just want hungry. I'm trying to listen to my body more.

yatesa12 I’m a doc too. Have you read The Obesity Code? It’s written by a Nephrologist out of Toronto, named Jason Fung. It’s a great read, as he lays out all the history and science behind the insulin theory of obesity. He advocates low carb/high fat diet, along with intermittent and even extended fasting, and discusses the science supporting his recommendations. He has lots of case study/testimonials from his obesity clinic. He also has another book that he co-authored, called “The Complete Guide to Fasting.” Really compelling work. Those books inspired me to undertake the Keto way of eating, along with intermittent (and some extended) fasting. In 2 months I lost 25 lbs. I’ve gotten a little sloppy with my eating, which caused a plateau. That’s what brought me to CM. I figured a little tracking (and community inspiration) can help me get the scale moving again. I’d love to discuss IF (or EF) with you or anyone else who’s interested. I find it a fascinating subject!

Hey there how cool - another doc ! Might I ask what area? I’m working as a hospitalist - small rural hospitals - locums + some steady in my town. The Dalles, OR.
Anyway - I’m looking into reading Jason Fung. Find this whole thing real interesting. I like the idea of organizng intake by keto stix results and body weight ha ha. Sure does feel about “down home” doesn’t it ?
Trying to get from BMI 23 to about 20. Some seem to think that must be easy - it’s not (!) I’m intent on doing this tho, just because of how much better 20 feels to me .
Real intersted to see how it might work to have both:
1. Some regular intake of (my) organic vegies
2. Break (“cheat”) meals - just to eat what’s been my usual >>> organic vegies, fish/seafood, maybe a bit of brn rice +++++ IPA (hey just abt 12oz that’s all !)+-+-+- cool dessert fm time to time
Seems if keto positive, a break meal ought to not set one back too far and all can be measured. Gonna try ! There is some in general dieting lit that advocates periodic breaks like this with ideas of waking up metabolism etc
Anyhow hope to hear more more from you !
All best
Ati

yatesa12 glad your move went well we missed you, it takes time to scroll through here & we each spend what time we can ~ reading, sharing & helping is really supportive I agree. I am having good & bad days, I realise the extreme fatigue has been going on quite sometime & certainly pre LCHF the going upstairs is worse than before the diet but that might be sheer coincidence.... & sometimes stairs are a breeze. My 'tracker' has me doing 4,000 steps a day, 2 years ago I was 10-15k so seeing GP on 16th Oct. 😱 Thanks for asking.

yah sounds like a good idea. Get a couple labs done. You’ve been on this for a bit and I wonder if a vitamin or mineral deficiency can occur. Plus of course other imbalances eg thyroid , cortisol. Vitamin D folate B12. Good luck with this and pls do let us know !
hmmm wondering if you shd even tell ur GO the first time around that you’re doing this. A lot unfortunately might just seal their dx prematurely and not think much further. Maybe don’t mention this at all unless your GP is keto friendly. Might be best way to seek out other causes.

yatesa12 I wasn't going to tell her (as symptoms started before) as it would get the blame no doubt & the real reason get missed..... B/P 109/69 tonight which is lower than my normal ~ taking all my mess & supplements like a good sensible lady so don't think I can self do anything meanwhile except water & rest 🛋🛌

I also do intermittent fasting: basically I stop eating around 7-8 o’clock at night and don’t eat anything until 1 or 2 the next afternoon. I drink my “Keto Drive” on an empty stomach in the morning which gets me into deep purple ketosis for the day. I feel great, rarely hungry, never light-headed. I’m losing weight steadily
