I’m by no means an expert, but from I’ve been reading here and elsewhere it’s important to remind ourselves that every one is different, too many variables to pin point the reasons for varying results and progress.
In my case I stick to the macro percentages but am working my way down from 30 net carbs per day to hopefully 20. I’ve averaged 25 for past week. I also try to extend fasts to an extent, if I skip breakfast I pack a lunch and have an early supper. The following morning I’ll have breakfast but then skip lunch and eat supper later. Took a little while to get used to this, but now I don’t really feel hungry during my mini fasts.
I’m sure my success thus far is mostly due to my work. I work outdoors and my job is very physical. I can easily get >20,000 steps on my Fitbit per work day and burn 8,000+ calories. So I end up with negative net calories almost every day. I’m also drinking lots of water, I mean a whole lot and nothing else but water.
I don’t know if what I’m doing is safe, but I’m trying to follow guidelines for a Keto diet based on everything I’ve read. I feel good, better than I have in years. I’m certain I was addicted to sugar, having eliminated it as well as all grain, starchy foods... coupled with everything else I’ve mentioned is what’s working for me. Occasionally I feel like my progress stalls for a few days, I think that’s normal. I haven’t really been doing this long enough to be fully Keto adapted, whatever that means. I plan to eliminate all dairy for 30 days, as soon as I finish eating cheese, yogurt... that I have on hand. I’m hoping that will help me reach my goal by mid-summer.
Hope this answered your questions and helps. Please don’t take anything I’m doing as gospel, I’m barely qualified to advise myself (well technically I’m not even that qualified) must less anyone else.

Hi everyone ! Here are my stats:
SW: 190
CW: 182
GW: not sure - ultimately 140 i guess.
I just started a week and a half ago! Very happy with progress to date.
I’m 40 and have two kids under 8 years old. Have been carrying this post baby weight for ages.
Oh - and the first few days were really hard and I was hungry a lot. I’m already feeling better. I was so addicted to sugar and carbs. I also LOVE this app. Helps so much!

I started April 13 with 206 lbs, currently lost 17 pounds. I'm so excited with my results, my goal for now is to get to 160lbs. I use scrubs which are very forgiving for weight gain and loss, but now I need to buy a smaller size! Feel great, lots of energy, never hungry and everyone has seen the difference!

Weighing in at 199 pounds and started Keto March 2018 with a few mistakes. Then I fine tuned a few of my flaws and added in more exercise which brought me down to 25 pounds as May 31st.. So now I’m starting June at 174 and hope to lose another 20 by the end of July. I’m dreaming big!! Or small? However u want to look at it.

I have been type 2 diabetic for years and got to the point that I had maxed out dosage of metformin and glimeperide and when my last blood panel came back A1c 8.6 I was prescribed insulin and told to start at 10 units and test and titrate till I found a good dose. I had bad low sugar episodes and was told to eliminate the glimepiride. That stabilized things but I was on a ton of meds and 60lbs overweight. Also there is NO generic insulin so about $400 foir 3 months supply. That is when I started looking for alternative therapy. I bumped into Keto when I read about “keto flu” and saw just how much it was like narcotic withdrawal. Eureka! Carb withdrawal! About 1 month into ketosis I have lost about 15lbs and my average Ketones test between 1.5 and 2.0 mmlo/L steady. However I am still very much in "keto flu’ in that I have extreme fatigue and brain fog constantly. Also I was expecting to be able to reduce dosages of metformin and insulin but when I do my blood sugar spikes to 140 mg/dl area. I am now thinking that perhaps I am not able to produce enough insulin on my own to handle the residual carbs in the keto diet. Is there some test I can ask the doctor to do to see if I am super insulin resistant or perhaps not able to produce much insulin at all? All suggestions welcome.

In a little over a month I have gone from 190 to 174. Stay away from carbs. Eat lots of good fat. very moderate protein. Some items that realy work for me are avocados, macadamia nuts bacon and eggs neck bones and collard greens olives lard butter coconut oil MCT oil in coffee. All of these will keep you in Ketosis. Invest in a glucometer and a ketone meter. They will give you feedback and keep you honest. Don't weigh yourself more than once a day.

By the way when I was home I notice I would slip in and out of ketosis even when I thought I was following the plan. Perhaps i was eating to much protein. For example morning I would have the keto vanilla with coffee. Then lunch couple of eggs free range, with olive oil sometimes with a little pesto. or cream cheese and blueberries, night I would have chicken costco breast, with some asaparagus or a steak with a lot of garlic sauteed in olive oil.

Umm that is interesting. I was under the impression that if one kept below 60 grams of Carbs a day there would be slight ketosis and subsequent slow very slow weight loss. The lower the carb intake the faster the loss. I guess I have been mistaken. Normally I walk the 10,000 steps a day five or six times a week about 5 miles. What would you recommend to change in what I am eating. i forgot to add I have also been eating one avocado a day with some macadamia nuts as a snack.

Hello! 37-year-old female here, 5 feet 5 inches. Starting weight was 158.8 lbs. I am at 153.0 lbs after one week. End goal will be 120-125. Still seems far off, but a great start, nonetheless. Having some issues coming up with quick lunches other than salads. Don't want to spend an arm and a leg at the grocery store for one single recipe, but going to do my best to get creative this next week to maintain focus and motivation! Good luck to everyone and keep encouraging one another. It's so helpful to have that kind of support!
