Thank you for sharing that you noticed changes in your body after month 3. I'm 1 month into my Keto journey and have lost 8lbs. I started at 172, and my goal is 155. At age 55, with a history of good eating and consistently exercise, I now realize I'm going to need to stay focused for months versus days. I'm committed!

Moby I think 8 pounds in a month is great! My weight isn’t coming down on the scale much either and I’m feeling defeated as well, but my app says 6.6 pounds a month is what I should expect. I don’t know how people are losing 20lbs in 2 weeks and such. That can’t be healthy for one, and I honestly don’t see how it’s even possible if you do the math calculations on 1 pound being 3500 calories. You would have to have a HUGE deficit to lose that fast, I would think. Like starvation mode. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I started at 180lbs on Oct 30. Almost 2 weeks in, I GAINED 4 lbs! I hit all my targets every day. Net carbs <20g (most of the time in the negative for the amount of activity tied into my Fitbit). Urine ketones measured at moderate after 1 week but last couple of days, but now consistently hovering at small. I drink all my water daily. WTF!?

The strips measure waste ketones and become ineffective when you become fat adapted as you will be using them for energy with little waste. Ketosis doesn’t mean you automatically lose weight, it just means you're burning plate and stored fat for energy. A person maintaining their weight is still in ketosis as long as their carbs are sufficiently low according to their carb tolerance. Calories matter, keto makes a deficit in calories easier due to the lack of hunger and sustained energy throughout the day. Check your fat, it contains 2x calories per gram than either protein or carbs. So eating 100g of fat is 900 calories.

Lisa Perdue Not sure which brand of strips you have, but the manual for mine was pretty clear. The sticks are most useful for indicating ketones/ketosis yes or no, even though there is a chart for level. Forget the chart. As your body gets fat adapted, the production and discarding of AcAc ketones varies, but any color change should indicate ketones. Also very important, the sticks have a rather short shelf life of 90 days after opening and quality of sticks matters. Bottom line is, any color change is what you are looking for, not how deep the color is. Any color change indicates ketones, thus ketosis. The really good news is after 90 days, you should have a pretty good feel for carb limits anyway.

July 28 I weighed a hefty 205lbs at 5'4". Nov. 19 I'm 167.2! 7 lbs to goal weight but I'm resetting my goal and going all the way baby! I'm in my 50's and wearing clothes from my 30's. Feels awesome. Can't wait to get to the end and go back to vegetarian lifestyle. Hope I don't gain it all back instantly when I make the switch and get off meat and dairy. Any thoughts on this?

diet123 Yes, meat and dairy aren't necessarily higher in calories than vegetarian foods, however they are far more nutrient dense and so I end up eating way fewer calories on keto, even though I'm eating decadently fattening foods! Well what I used to think was fattening clearly isn't fattening, because I weigh 50 lbs less than I did last August! As long as I'm burning some of my own fat along with the fats I'm eating, I lose. Anybody else peeved at the old "food guide" that was all such a big fat lie???

Alli2002 Alli, you can lose faster than you have been, if you skip breakfast just have your coffee in the morning. Lunchtime, have your breakfast or brunch and make it a big meal. Next you'll want supper around 5:30pm. Make suppers a ginormous salad, like 7 cups of salad! With your meat and/or cheese, goopy dressings, olive oil and apple cider vinegar etc. Then you're done. The fast from after supper til noon the following day is when you'll burn so much weight off it's crazy the difference it makes. Good luck!
